Planning the Perfect Wedding Morning (and What to Pack)
Tips from a wedding photographer who’s seen it all – and knows how to keep things calm, fun and photo-ready.

Your wedding morning is where the magic starts. Whether you're sipping bubbles with your bridesmaids or hanging out with family before suiting up, this part of the day sets the tone. Here's how to make sure it’s relaxed, beautifully paced, and runs like clockwork – plus a handy checklist of what to bring.

Wedding Ceremony

1. Create a Calm, Clutter-Free Space

Natural light, a bit of tidying, and a calm atmosphere go a long way. Whether you’re in a hotel, your home, or a venue suite, make sure there’s enough space to move around and keep one corner clutter-free for hair, makeup – and gorgeous photos.

2. Surround Yourself with Good Energy

Pick your prep crew with care. You want people around you who help you stay grounded, excited, and relaxed – not flustered or overwhelmed. It’s your morning, so choose the vibe that suits you best.

3. Allow Extra Time – Always

Hair and makeup always take longer than expected – even when everyone’s being efficient. Build in buffer time so you’re not rushing at the last minute. An extra 30–60 minutes can make all the difference.

4. Eat Something & Stay Hydrated

Yes, nerves might be high – but food is your friend. Keep snacks and water on hand (and a cheeky prosecco, of course). A light breakfast or snack keeps your energy steady and your mood balanced.

5. Think About What You’ll Wear Before the Outfit

Dressing gowns, pyjamas, oversized shirts – anything you can take off easily without ruining your hair or makeup is ideal. Plus, coordinated outfits or robes look lovely in your morning photos.

6. Lay Out the Details

Keep everything you'll need close by: rings, perfume, shoes, ties, cufflinks, jewellery, veil, bouquet, and any keepsakes. It helps your day flow and gives your photographer time to capture those little touches you’ve chosen so carefully.

What to Pack – Your Wedding Morning Essentials
Here’s a helpful checklist to avoid the last-minute “Where is my...?” moment:

For Everyone:

Phone charger or power bank
Water & snacks (especially if you’ll be in hair/makeup for hours)
Music playlist or speaker
Tissues (for happy tears!)
Sewing kit / safety pins / double-sided tape
Plasters / blister pads
Painkillers or medication
Deodorant / perfume / breath mints
Spare shoes / sliders for comfort
A copy of your vows or speeches
For the Bride(s):

Hair and makeup inspiration photos
Lipstick for top-ups
Strapless bra or stick-on cups
Dress hanger
Jewellery, veil, shoes, perfume
Garter (if wearing one)
Buttonhole or bouquet
Special gifts / cards for loved ones
For the Groom(s):

Suit, shirt, tie, shoes, socks
Watch or cufflinks
Buttonholes
Any special items like a hip flask or family heirlooms
Pocket square
Aftershave
Ironed shirt (and maybe a spare!). 8. Most Important of All – Enjoy It
This is such a special part of your wedding day. Take a moment to soak it in – the nerves, the excitement, the laughs, the music, the champagne. I’ll be there capturing it all naturally, so you can just be in it.
