Rainy Day Weddings
Why rain doesn’t ruin a wedding – and how to make the most of it
Let’s be honest – in the UK, especially down here in Cornwall and the South West, rain is always a possibility. But the good news? A rainy wedding can be just as magical as a sunny one – and sometimes even more so.
Here’s how to prepare, what to bring, and why a little drizzle might be the best thing that happens to your wedding photos.

1. Trust Your Photographer (That’s Me!)
I’ve got you. I come prepared with wet weather plans, experience in working with changing light, and a relaxed approach that helps you feel comfortable – no matter the forecast. We’ll work around the rain and find the best spots to shoot, even if it’s indoors or undercover.
2. Pack Pretty Umbrellas
Bring clear, white or matching umbrellas – they look lovely in photos and keep you dry without clashing with your outfits. I also carry a few neutral brollies with me just in case. If you're ordering your own, go for large and simple – no logos or patterns!

3. Embrace the Mood
Rainy weddings have a soft, romantic atmosphere. Reflections in puddles, misty backgrounds, raindrops on windows – they all add character and mood. A slightly windswept veil or damp beach sand tells a story, and those images often become instant favourites.
4. Bring Spare Shoes (or Go Barefoot!)
If you're planning an outdoor ceremony or portraits, bring a backup pair of flats or wellies. Or if you’re on a beach or woodland path, don’t be afraid to kick off your shoes altogether – barefoot couples in the rain make for amazing photos!

5. Add a Towel or Two to Your Kit
A small towel in your bag or car is a lifesaver for drying hands, bouquets, or the bottoms of dresses and trousers before portraits.
6. Use the Indoors Creatively
If your venue has cosy corners, archways, staircases, or big windows, we’ll use them for beautiful indoor shots. Natural light through a rain-splashed window? Yes please.
