How to make family and group shots smooth, meaningful, and maybe even a little fun!
Group photos often get a bad reputation – they take too long, someone’s always missing, and everyone just wants to grab a drink. But with a little planning (and a photographer who knows how to herd people quickly!), they can be one of the easiest and most enjoyable parts of your wedding day.
Here’s how to keep them flowing beautifully – and fast.

1. Make a Short, Sweet List
Group photo lists can get out of hand quickly. Stick to around 6–8 essential group combinations and we’ll fly through them. Want a longer list? No problem – we’ll just need a little more time. I can help you build a realistic list during our planning chat.
2. Choose a Photo Wrangler
Nominate someone who knows who’s who – a sibling, best mate, or extroverted auntie. I’ll call the names, but your photo wrangler can help gather the right people quickly so we’re not wasting precious time.

3. Keep Everyone in the Area
If group photos are scheduled for straight after the ceremony, ask your celebrant or venue to remind guests not to wander too far. That way we don’t lose Uncle Dave to the bar or Cousin Jane to the bathroom!
4. Build in Some Buffer Time
Group shots usually take 20–30 minutes for a streamlined list, depending on the size of your wedding. We’ll plan a little cushion around them, so you’re never rushed and can still enjoy your drinks reception.

5. Don’t Worry About the Rest
I’ll be capturing natural, candid moments of your guests throughout the day – so don’t worry about having a photo of every person in a line-up. You’ll still get lovely images of all your friends and family mingling, laughing, and having a great time.
6. Want a Big Group Shot? Let’s Chat
Whole wedding party photos can be amazing – but they take a bit of coordination. If you'd love one, let’s pick the right moment in the timeline (and location) to make it work smoothly.
