When to Sneak Away for Couples Photos
Making time for beautiful portraits without missing the fun
Couples portraits are one of my favourite parts of the day – a chance for you to breathe, connect, and get some truly stunning photos together. But they shouldn’t feel like a chore or mean disappearing from your own wedding for hours.
Here’s how to make them feel natural, enjoyable – and perfectly timed.

1. Think Short and Sweet – with Flexibility
We don’t need an hour to get beautiful portraits. Just 10–20 minutes in the right light and location can be perfect. If the weather’s being tricky, we’ll be flexible – I’ll work around it so you’re never stressed.
2. Golden Hour is Gorgeous
If your timeline allows, slipping out during golden hour – that soft, glowy light just before sunset – can give you some truly magical images. It's a lovely time for a breather, especially if you're not into lots of posing earlier in the day.

3. After the Ceremony – A Natural Pause
Right after the ceremony, once the hugs and confetti have settled, is often a great moment to step away for 10 minutes. You’re still riding the high, the light is usually good, and your guests will be happily chatting or grabbing a drink.
4. After Group Photos – Seamless and Quick
We’re already in photo mode, you’re feeling relaxed, and everyone else is heading to the bar – the perfect moment to wander off for a few quiet shots just the two of you.

5. Don’t Fancy an Audience? I’ve Got You
If you’re a bit camera-shy or just want something more private, we’ll choose a quiet spot or save portraits for later in the day when things feel more low-key. No fuss, no pressure.
6. You Can Always Split It
We don’t need to do all your portraits at once! We can split your couples shots into two short sessions – one earlier on, and a second during golden hour or after dinner. That way, you get a variety of looks (and lighting) without missing too much of the action.
